Indonesian massage
Learn some facts about Indonesian massage and its difference from That massage.
Centuries-old tradition
Traditional Indonesian massage incorporates techniques from Javanese and Balinese traditions. A key element of the massage is the use of warm aromatic oil from the island of Java, poured onto the center of the stomach or back and then spread across the entire body with broad, sweeping motions. This oil not only softens and nourishes the skin, enhancing its firmness and elasticity, but also promotes deep relaxation, relieves tension and stress, restores energy balance, boosts physical fitness, and revitalizes the body. Imagine lying in a cloud of vibrant aromas from natural oils and herbal blends, feeling the expert touch of the therapist.
The massage begins with a "greeting"—a gentle massage of the feet and palms, which are home to numerous energy points connected to the internal organs. The session then moves to the back, shoulders, arms, legs, and stomach, using kneading, rubbing, and circular motions to release muscular tension, alleviate discomfort in the back and waist, improve joint mobility, enhance the elasticity of muscles and ligaments, stimulate lymphatic and blood circulation, and eliminate toxins. Special attention is given to problematic areas.
Some variations of this massage include treatments for the scalp, face, and ears. The refined movements of Indonesian massage allow every inch of the body to be attended to, activating blood vessels in the skin and improving microcirculation. Special techniques focusing on active points stimulate circulation and increase the body’s overall vitality. Stress, chronic fatigue, and other modern ailments melt away under the skilled hands of the therapist. You’ll feel your body rejuvenate, fresh energy filling your being, and your overall tone improving. The entire ritual, from the first touch to the last, leaves an exceptionally pleasant sensation. After the massage, you’ll feel refreshed both physically and mentally.
The Secret of Javanese Princesses
The luxurious Lulur treatment, originally part of the pre-wedding preparation rituals for Javanese and Balinese princesses, is now enjoyed by both women and men.
Lulur is an opulent body care procedure that originated in the royal palaces of Java, Indonesia. For a long time, it was an exclusive privilege of the royal family. According to tradition, this ritual begins 40 days before a wedding. Every day until the wedding ceremony, the treatment was performed by women from the royal family, who also imparted life wisdom to the bride.
Lulur is a special paste made from Indonesian spices and herbs, with its recipe varying by tradition. Historically, young Indonesian women used Lulur for 40 days before their weddings to prepare, cleanse, and soften their skin. Today, Lulur refers to a series of treatments that include similar cosmetic preparations. Beyond the application and wrapping of the paste, the procedure also involves massage and oil rubbing. The final stage is an aromatic or milk bath, sometimes enriched with ocean salt, allowing for deep relaxation and stress relief.
The Royal Care Procedure
The treatment begins with a foot soak in a basin of warm water infused with exotic flowers and spices. This is followed by a foot massage using natural oils with exotic aromas, significantly boosting mood and enhancing vitality.
After washing and massaging, the feet are wrapped in a towel. The skin is then exfoliated with a scrub to prepare it for the yogurt massage—spices used during the massage are more effective on cleansed skin. In Indonesia, a special cloth is used during this process to gently pat the skin, increasing its tone and further detoxifying it.
Next comes the Balinese royal massage with a paste made of natural yogurt blended with spices, after which the body is wrapped. The massage is performed using thumbs and palms. Massaging the body’s energy meridians helps release blocked energy, relax muscles, and reduce tension. The more intense the massage, the stronger its therapeutic effect.
Once the paste dries, it is carefully removed, eliminating dead skin cells and leaving the skin soft and aromatic. The final step is applying a refreshing floral lotion to the body.
After the scrub and massage, you can enjoy a milk or floral bath to fully relax and rejuvenate.
